earthsea
i really wonder sometimes how come harry potter is so famous and has all these movie deals while Sparrowhawk and the inhabitants of Ursula K. Le Guin's Earthsea saga remain... quiet. there is a following, to be sure, but never that much noise.
Ursula K. Le Guin's writing is so rich. Her prose, in style, is not "whoa" material like tolkien, but great just the same. there are so many levels of meaning in her writing. so many ideas and truths come out in the dialogue. she reminds me of madeleine l'engle in the way she brings out what she means to say. but... for some reason le guin is thicker soup, if you know what i mean.
her meaning, her story, is woven into the characters and their history and all that is and was earthsea. they form a solid message to the reader.
